A comprehensive and personal 22 day, accommodated safari through South Africa - hiking, cultural interaction and superb game viewing in the Rainbow Nation. Visit the Kruger National Park, Swaziland, Zululand, Drakensberg, Garden Route, Cape Town and more...
In the morning you will be collected from your Hotel or the Airport in Johannesburg and we head towards the magnificent Mpumalanga Province. We stop in the sleepy town of Dullstroom for lunch before heading to the Misty Mountain Lodge situated on the spectacular Long Tom pass. Enjoy the scenery, go for a short hike or try your luck with a spot of trout fishing!
Today we head out on the scenic Panorama Route and visit the old mining town of Pilgrims Rest, Graskop, God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and the Three Rondavels in the Blyde river canyon. The traditional thatched rondavels at Timbavati Safari Lodge are our final destination.
An early start will take us to the Kruger National Park, the largest Game Reserve in South Africa and home to the “Big 5” (Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Rhino and Leopard). We spend the mornings and afternoons on game drives in search of that perfect safari experience! A night drive lets us see Africa in a different light. Satara and Lower Sabie Camps will be our bases.
After a final game drive we head south into the Mountain Kingdom of Swaziland and onto the Royal Hlane National Park. Ndlovu Camp will be our home for the next 2 nights. Cosy oil lanterns will make you feel like the explorers of yesteryear. The waterhole on your doorstep might attract some of Africa’s largest herbivores and expert guides will show you the magic of Africa on a bush walk and open vehicle safari!
The road south takes us back to South Africa and into Zululand, home to Hluhluwe, South Africa’s oldest game reserve. A game drive through the reserve takes us to Hilltop Camp with splendid views of the surrounding hills and valleys.
An early morning game drive takes us southwards an on to St Lucia. This afternoon you can choose to go for a sundowner river cruise or stroll along the beach of the Indian Ocean. Elephant Lake Hotel.
A leisurely start to the day will see us head down along the coast towards South Africa’s playground. Just a stone throw from the Beach, Bronze Bay apartments in Umhlanga Rocks, will be our home for the next 2 nights. You are free to spend your time at leisure. Go for a swim in the warm ocean, visit the Aquarium, shop at the Gateway or stroll along the beachfront promenade.
It’s time to head back inland. The majestic Drakensberg with unspoilt beauty remind of Swiss landscapes with a twist. We pass lush pastures with dairy cows and rows of old oak trees, a stark contrast do you typical African image, until we reach The Old Hatchery. The fresh mountain air invites us to a serene hike in the foothills.
Heading further south through the old homeland province of Transkei (birthplace of Nelson Mandela) we find hundreds of colourful villages dotting the landscape. We visit the Nelson Mandela Museum near his burial site in Qunu for a little insight in to the life of this remarkable South African. Crawfords Beach Lodge in the heart of the Wild Coast will ensure a perfect end to an exciting day.
Addo Elephant Park with its splendour of succulents and ample wildlife is our destination for today. An afternoon game drive should bring exciting sightings.
Our route south leads us onto the world famous Garden Route, famed for its variety of plants and flowers. We stop at Storms River in the Tsisikamma and go for a relaxed hike to a spectacular suspension bridge spanning the river mouth. After lunch we continue on to Knysna and the Knysna Quays Apartments directly in the Waterfront. The afternoon and next day are at leisure to explore the town and surrounds.
A steep pass over the Outeniqua Mountains leads us inland to the “Klein Karoo” and on to Oudsthoorn, the ostrich capital of the world. We stop for lunch at one of the many ostrich farms and in the afternoon we explore the Cango Caves. Turnberry Boutique Hotel.
Today we get up early to go see a Meerkat colony on the outskirts of Oudshoorn (let these little guys surprise you) followed by a scenic drive back to the coast towards Hermanus. The many activities include whale watching (Jun to Nov), shark cage diving in Walker Bay, abseiling and treetop tours. Escape to nature and breathe the champagne air along the spectacular cliff paths or laze on one of the pristine Blue Flag beaches. Misty Waves.
After a leisurely breakfast we head to Stellenbosh, the heart of South Africa’s wine industry. We will taste and experience on of South Africa’s oldest wine farms dating back to the 17th century. Spier.
The final leg of this tour brings us to the Mother City of Cape Town, where we explore the peninsula from the famous Table Mountain to the most south-western point on the African continent – The Cape of Good Hope. Take in the glitz of Camps Bay and explore the Waterfront from our spectacular base at Camps Bay Park Studios or Camps Bay Resort just a stone throw from the beach.
